INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH

What is introductory paragraph??
How can if affect the essay and influence the reader??
How many types of introductory paragraph??
As you read further you will know the answer,,
The purpose of the introductory paragraph is to get the reader’s attention, to set tone for the rest of the essay and it will make a contract with the reader – what will be happen at the rest at this essay??

In introductory paragraph there have three parts, that is:
§  The Hook – Design to grab attention immediately and give some indication about the essay’s topic
§  The Transition – Moves the reader from the hook to the driving force of the essay…
§  The Thesis – Makes the contract with the reader about what will be discussed without a blatant announcement.

There are seven types of hook, that is
·        Personal examples
·        Quotations
·        Facts or statistics
·        Rhetorical questions
·        Current events
·        Contrast to the thesis statement

Prediction and inference

An inference is a logical conclusion based on what has been stated in the text. Information which is provided must be analyzed in order for you to understand what is not directly stated or hidden between the lines. In other to infer, you need to use your experience, knowledge, common sense and power of reasoning to draw logical conclusion.

Predicting is an important reading skill as it will enable you to enhance your understanding of the text by anticipating what will happen next. Predicting can be done by using what you know about the text, plot, setting, characters, issues and relating them to your own knowledge to figure out possible outcomes.

TITTLE / EVENT
WHAT WE THINK WILL HAPPEN
CLUE FROM THE VIDEO CLIPS
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED
Grenade
He change his mind and going back with his piano
He saw his girlfriend with other guy
He killed himself
Toy Story 3
They walked together just to show the place surrounding
Ken asked Barbie for a walk
They all walk together

The above table shows the activities that happen during the class.
Miss Zu was showing different video and we were required to predict what will happen next. It is funny; sometimes our prediction is largely different from the reality. Miss zu ensure us, to think carefully before making prediction and inference from what we were shown rather it is a video clip or a movie or even when we read a book.

Making inference and prediction is not a s easy as we say, it need a lot of thinking and clue to be link in way to make a correct one.
